Position: Student Advisor
Location: Schools Division
Start Date: August 2022
Reports to: Director of Schools Division and Assigned Principal
Compensation: Refer to current teacher salary scale on District website
Work Year: 10 Months
POSITION GOAL: To support and sustain an educational environment conducive to the fulfillment of the Colonial School District’s mission and vision so that maximum positive impact on the education of children can be realized. The Student Advisor provides assistance to the administrative team to promote student achievement and safety of each student and staff member. This position performs duties as assigned by the Principal involving major portions of school administrative responsibilities, operations, and climate. Student Advisors are also responsible for supporting teacher effectiveness with the use of informal and formal evaluations using district adopted frameworks.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:
1. Must be eligible or hold State of Delaware Certification as Principal/Assistant

2. Must be certified in Special Education or demonstrate a strong knowledge of
special education
3. Proficient in technology (Microsoft Office Applications, Educational Software,
Google Applications, etc.)
4.. Demonstrates sensitivity to issues impacting various cultural, ethnic and
socioeconomic groups.
5. Knowledge regarding practices known to be effective in
promoting student learning and increasing student achievement.
6. Knowledge/Experience in supporting students with IEP and 504 plans.
7. Demonstrates understanding and ability to perform job-related tasks.
8. Attends work regularly and contributes to the leadership team.
9. Must be able to support teachers and serve students remotely and in-person
depending on the needs of the school.
10. Acceptable Criminal Background Report and no entries on Child Abuse Registry
in the State of Delaware.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities related to the District. 1. Assist school leadership team with a variety of school operations,
climate, and instructional leadership tasks and activities.
2. Attend and participate in a variety of professional development opportunities and
meetings including but not limited to Instructional Leadership Seminars, District Leadership Meetings, and Assistant Principal/Student Advisors Meetings.
3. Provide ongoing informal feedback to teachers utilizing Observation and
Feedback as well as evaluating teachers and specialists utilizing the Teaching and Learning and Specialists Frameworks.
4. Perform other duties/responsibilities as assigned by the Principal and/or Director
of Schools.
